eu-fines-apple-and-meta-digital-markets-act-penalties

So, like, this big deal in Europe, right? The European Commission totally missed its deadline last month, and people were worried they were scared of the US getting mad at them. On April 23, 2025, at 03:11 PM, they finally did something. Apple and Meta got in trouble under the Digital Markets Act, a new European thing to stop tech giants from being too bossy on the internet.

Apple had to pay €500 million because they didn’t let app developers tell users about other options outside the App Store. And Meta got slapped with a €200 million fine because they didn’t give people the choice to use a service that doesn’t take all their private info. They have to fix things in 60 days, or they’ll get fined more.

Not really sure why this matters, but that’s the news for today.
