Carbyne Biometrics Patent Challenges & New Campaign Updates: Amadora Systems LLC & HyperQuery Revival

This past week, there was a slight decrease in the number of patent filings at both the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) and in district courts. The PTAB saw 21 new filings, all inter partes reviews (IPRs). Notable filings included Samsung challenging patents held by Collision Communications, Intellectual Ventures patents being challenged by TCL, Lenovo, and Early Warning Services LLC, and Visa challenging Cortex Mcp Inc patents.

In terms of institution decisions, Apple had mixed results in its petitions challenging Carbyne Biometrics LLC patents, while Tesla and Visa saw success in their respective challenges. The PTAB issued 13 final written decisions, with some cases resulting in all challenged claims being found unpatentable.

In district court, there were 46 new filings, with a significant number coming from entities like Amadora Systems LLC, VDPP, AGIS Software Development LLC, and HyperQuery LLC.

Mixed Results in Carbyne Biometrics Patent Challenges

Carbyne Biometrics filed a case against Apple in 2023, asserting six patents related to authentication and fraud reduction. Apple challenged these patents through IPRs earlier this year, with mixed results in the institution decisions. Five of the six patents are pending before the PTAB, while one has survived review.

New Campaign Launched by Amadora Systems LLC

Amadora Systems LLC initiated a new campaign by filing ten lawsuits in the Eastern District of Texas. The complaints target various financial institutions, alleging infringement of patents related to enhanced security features for card transactions.

HyperQuery Campaign Revived

After resolving previous cases last year, HyperQuery LLC has revived its campaign by filing new lawsuits. These lawsuits target companies like Sony, Roku, Amazon, and Nintendo, asserting patents related to web addresses and downloading applications over communication networks.

Overall, the patent landscape continues to evolve with ongoing challenges, new campaigns, and revived litigation strategies. Stay updated with the latest developments in the Weekly UP.
