Mary Keane is now the first woman to serve as director general of this Law Society of Ireland in its own 191-year history.
Ms Keane takes the reins out of Ken Murphy, who retired Monday after over 26 years at the part.
The appointment was made by the Law Society Council currently pending a permanent appointment.
A qualified barrister and grad of University College Dublin, Ms Keane has worked to the Law Society since 1992, most recently holding the posts of deputy director general and director of policy and public affairs.
